The new album from sax legend and
Grammy Lifetime Achievement award winner
Benny Golson hits stores this week via Concord Jazz (CD & digital).
New Time, New ‘Tet is Golson’s first new studio recording in five years and elaborates the traditional jazztet concept; combining Golson’s new compositions with standard jazz repertoire. The album features classics like
Thelonious Monk’s “Epistrophy”,
Sonny Rollins’ “Airegin,” and Grammy-winning vocalist
Al Jarreau reprises Golson’s classic “Whisper Not.”
Led by Benny Golson, the debut of his new jazztet features heavyweight musicians,
Eddie Henderson (trumpet),
Steve Davis (trombone),
Mike LeDonne (piano),
Buster Williams (bass) and
Carl Allen (percussion). The stellar sextet revives the legendary group’s highly regarded three-horn front line, along with its classic, tight ensemble work and sophisticated sound.
Concord Jazz have also released
